Celebrate the Skyfire Festival by carving a creature from household items!

Details

The inside of the stone building offered some respite from the blazing sun. The smell of wet clay and spilled glazes confirmed you were in the right place. The pottery studio was quiet, offering a break from not only the sun, but also the bustle of the Skyfire Festival outside. The Haddu are nocturnal, but many of the tourists visiting are not, meaning many of the establishments, including this one, are open for extra hours.

Inside sits the sole attendant, surely on what is the Haddu graveyard shift. He does not even seem to notice your presense as you walk in, as he continues to pick at the details of a Haddu figure he was carving out of wood. The Haddu himself seemed very old, with thousands of tiny lines carved into his massive scales, much like an intricate tattoo. While he doesn't seem to notice you staring, it would be best to begin the work you came to complete in the first place...

INFORMATION:

Carve a figure or object from the Alurizan world. This can be created out of any carveable object (eraser, wood, soap, etc.) and may either be in the shape of the creature or be a painted vessel that you carved. Additionally, it can be a stamp carved on an eraser or professional materials. If you elect to make a stamp, please test it a few times and include the resutls! Whether it is painted on or carved out of the material, it must be clear what you are intending to depict. For example, if you carve an irida orb fungus, it would need to be painted since its shape is not distinct, but a boolew would likely not need paint.

IMPORTANT:  Always handle knives and other sharp objects with care. Do not point knives at others, and if necessary, find a softer object to carve if you are uncertain of your handling skills.

★ Click for Inspiration! ★

Carve a stamp out of an eraser, be sure to test it a few times and include the results with your submission.

Soap carving that's kid friendly, and you can still use the soap afterwards. Clean with Boolew!

Wood bowl carving if you have the tools and are a bit more ambitious. Remember you will still need to paint something on a bowl!

★ Please remember to handle all tools safely. Aluriza.org and its staff are not responsible for any injuries.

Don't have your own Xero yet? Don't worry, you can draw or write about Ziggy or Luca! You can read all about them on their profiles. You may also ask permission to use another member's Xero in our Discord. However, if you do already own a Xero, you must use your own Xero and may not use the mascots or another user's Xero.

REQUIREMENTS

As the sun dips below the horizon, your eyes are fixated on colorful lamps and the smell of fresh stone-fired breads. You now find yourself deep in the bustling caves of B'Haddu. No matter if you're used to the nightlife of this city or just visiting for the Nevriset B'Xhadari, it's difficult to deny the comfortable warmth of the environment.
A glimmer catches your eye and you decide to stop at a dug-out stall. What would be furniture is carved directly into the stone walls and floor. A soft glow illuminates each product from above. The shelves look to contain various gems and materials. Your attention is brought to a long table with an intricate beaded rug cast over top. You can make out small boxy depictions of the Haddu, who seem to dance as you follow the pattern. Moving along the table's length, you notice a delicious selection of seasonal fruits in baskets, before a pair of scaly hands placing a bowl of small cookies onto the table comes into view.
"They are irresistible." A low feminine voice calls to you from the dark, looking up you can make out a Haddu. A gold chain adorned with Skyfire gems rest across the bridge of her nose and she smiles fondly at you. "Freshly made, too. If you haven't tried a Lucky Treat yet- you better soon. By sunrise I always sell out." You catch her smile with her eyes before she sets the basket down and interlaces her fingers.

INFORMATION:

Draw or write about your Xero, or a Xero you have permission to use, celebrating the Skyfire festival. Art should be a fullbody with a background showing how your Xero is celebrating the festival, and writing should be at minimum 1000 words. More detail on the event's lore can be found HERE.

IMPORTANT:  Last year prompts depicting celebrations similar to the American 4th of July were accepted; however, this year they will NOT be. This prompt requires engaging in the lore, so while your Xero may otherwise enjoy fireworks and barbecue, this is will no longer fit within the prompt guidelines.

★ Click for Inspiration! ★

★ Consider what your Xero might buy from a vendor at the event. Would they be more interested in the jewelry, the snacks, or perhaps the excitement of gambling on a lucky treat?

★ Maybe your Xero would sit around the fire, staring at the constellations and listening to stories of the past.

★ Did your Xero travel to the event? Did they encounter any hardships on their journey?

★ Is there a particular figure your Xero is looking forward to meeting at the event? Whether it's an old friend or someone knowledgeable on the festival's history.

Don't have your own Xero yet? Don't worry, you can draw or write about Ziggy or Luca! You can read all about them on their profiles. EVENT Quest: Feng's Bangs

A small establishment sits nestled on the edge of town, just off a clearing where many settle in to observe the constellations. A woodland Xero with a fire-like mane sits inside, clearly manning the shop. He looks up from chipping away at a ruby to ask,

"What're ya buyin?"

After a brief moment of scanning the room, it becomes clear this Xero is obsessed with all things pyrotechnics. His setup has supplies to build any type of fire, and then some. Whether it's to build a small bonfire or a full-on stone pit, he has the supplies for it. Most remarkably of all, were the small gem pendants, built seemingly to catch the light from a flame and project their colors onto the surrounding beach. The fiery Xero confirms this before continuing,

"If'ya have any extra fire starters and gems, I can cut ya a good deal..."

Art by Peanchiee

Golden morning sunlight glitters across the sands as you give a sleepy stretch having celebrated the Nevriset B'Xhadari  overnight. The once bustling streets of B'Haddu filled with foods smells and delightful sounds is hushed as many rest late into the morning hours. 'Now, it's time to return home' You think to yourself until you spot a peculiar round fellow. He seems at odds between enthusiasm and mild disappointment. He lifts one hand to his forehead and rubs his temples while looking at his phone in another. You almost make out a rough “Not again…”
On a whim, you decide to approach him. Perhaps you can help somehow? But without warning he pockets his phone and his face lights up. “Those are some mighty fine items you got there!” He starts. “In fact that one there-“ With a clawed hand he motions to the new jewelry you have on your person. “-If I’m not mistaken that is from this year'Nevriset B'Xhadari ? Oh curse the Blight! That all but proves it to me! I missed it again.” He shakes his head from side to side leading his small ears to flop about and afterwards adjusts his glasses. His phone buzzes, and for a second you see panic flash in his four beady eyes. “Oh how am I going to.. what will I.. OH!” The little alien perks up and with a big smile grabs something from under his hat, letting his phone ring out again. He gives a slight chuckle and his demeanor changes into something more affable than sporadic. “I’m so sorry to bother you, but do you think you could meet me at this location?  You'd really be helping me out!” Before you can speak up he places the folded paper into your hand and picks up his phone before the third ring. He gives you a big smile and thumbs up and hurries along. You can still hear him agreeing with the person on the other line as he jogs off.

You fumble with the map, slowly unfolding it. There are directions scribbled on the sides and a big red circle encasing “The Modern Culture Museum of Aluriza” Your ears flicker as you look around. You wished you knew that this Boubali wanted to meet in Harbor before agreeing...

The Modern Culture Museum of Aluriza is a large, old, factory building. You give a soft chuckle at the apparent irony. The building is two stories with interesting blocky architecture. Docks for flying craft are positioned on the second story however none are there now. It stands out against the more environmentally integrated buildings you're accustomed to, but you do see peaks of greenery present inside through the large windows; and out, with sprawling vines and flowering plants places at windows edges. Upon getting inside you head to the reception desk, but a waving hand catches your attention. The same alien from before is sat at a bar stool in a small cafe to your left. You join him at the open window bar. “I’m so glad you came!” He starts. “I was almost starting to think you wouldn’t make it.” He seems intently focused on you for a second. “A Xero I take it? You must be a local- I’m Kasper. Or KC for short” You take the moment while he’s talking to give him a good look up and down. He’s wearing a beanie with some badges attached you don’t recognize, a set of four eyed glasses and a jacket with various patches; some in languages you cannot read. He takes notice and leans back giving you a better look. “I’m a part time employee of this fine establishment AND a full time memorabilia collector!” You widen your eyes in surprise and give a look around. He gives a chuckle. “Of the museum, not the coffee shop.” He corrects before continuing. “Self proclaimed anyways; you see it’s my favorite thing in the whole universe to participate in these cultural exchanges, like the Nevriset B'Xhadari, but I’m just awful with time- so I always seem to miss out.”

He picks up his coffee and sips it, the foam sticks to his mustache and with a lighting quick flick of his tongue it’s gone. “The MCMA is working with B'Haddus' cultural division to show off unique full jewelry sets for this Nevriset B'Xhadari, but they rely on me to organize that. You must have had a really unique one being a Xero? So about my deal, I’m sure you have some duplicates you can spare to help me fill out what we’re missing. I can even offer you some payment for your time! How’s that sound? Pretty good right?!” His little ears perked up and his eyes squinted with joy at his cleverness. It's true that Xero's are rare; and your jewelry set would make for a pretty spectacular display. He gives a little happy nod as if to persuade you into mimicking the action. You give a little nod back and he smiles showing sharp teeth. “Oh thank you!! I promise I’ll make this trade worthwhile."
