Quest: Battery Burden

You seem to have taken a wrong turn on your way back from your latest trip, and found yourself in the cargo bay of the port. You quickly spot a green Xero working on one of the ships, and approach him to ask for directions.

“Oh, what? I don’t really think you’re supposed to be here, but that’s not my problem. But hey, while you’re here - someone took the batteries out of my walkie-talkie and hid the box of extras. Do you think you could bring me some? I’ll share my snacks with you.”

Before you can even respond, he turns back to his work. Guess your only option is to look for batteries… or the exit.

Quest: Cosmicon

Story

Cosmicon is the largest galactic convention on this side of the asteroid belt!

It’s focused on showing off the newest advancements in entertainment and technology to hoards of excited visitors. It's hosted in a different space station or observatory every time, chosen for its view of a specific planetary or stellar body, or events like passing meteor showers. The ceiling and walls of the station shine black with the vastness of space, only separated by a few inches of glass as a holographic membrane lights up invisible radiation to show the glow of an otherwise invisible cascade of solar radiation-- an aurora in the blackness of space, with a view of a local gas giant.

A Xero of your stature is considered small compared to the sea of aliens that seems to sprawl across the lobby. Even the local airspace above you, through the innermost layer of glass, is bustling with small personal crafts, as others rush to and fro from panel to events. You are on your way into the marketplace. Holograms on every corner have been advertising a very special V-Pet that you are determined to get! It’s said it’s only available during the convention and that stock is limited!

There's a line, of course, what else could you expect? It’s not too bad; this time is spent admiring others booths from your position in line, listening to conversations of others and occasionally a snack vendor will walk by, selling snacks, hydration and fidget toys for the species that thrive in different conditions than simply standing and waiting. You can tell you’re getting close! The snaking line has made its last turn and instead of seeing people shuffling in the opposite direction as you, you're butted against tables shut down for the duration of the giveaway. But it’s hard to see around the Korso in front of you, and shuffling to either side doesn't help much, as several species of comparable stature are in front of them as well. The Korso seems to be furrowing their brow, counting those ahead on their hooves… and sags backwards after a moment, clearly satisfied with the results of their summation. However many options are left, there's enough for the Korso… and since you're directly behind them, there's a decent chance there's at least one more for you!

Finally, you can see the end of the line. You can see someone dressed in a Fuzzlet costume, but the character is unfamiliar. This one is white and has a halo and wings. Your eyes sparkle as you bounce up on your tip-toes and cane to the side. You're seeing the new -OOF!

“Oh my stars!??” A nasally voice seems shocked. “I barely even noticed you there- if I had a tail you would practically be standing on it!”

Your eyes focus enough to see your assailant is the Korso! They offer a hoof to help you up. You accept, only to realize the person behind you is now at the front of the booth. They are feverishly grabbing a blister pack from the booth attendants hands. Your feet move faster than you can think to claim your own. You don’t even thank the Korso for their help. The booth attendant fishes through the box as you step up, moving what sounds like packing material to one side, then looks at you with a shrug.

“Sorry, kid. That was my last one.”

You’re demoralized. That can’t be true!! All the waiting in line? All so you could get elbowed out of line and onto the ground?? The attendant nonchalantly points in the direction of the last alien he helped, but it’s no use. You’re too short and they have disappeared into the crowd. As the booth closes up you drag your feet back towards the main lobby when someone calls

“Wait- you- the Xero! Wait!” It’s the Korso that barreled you over, great. Their long legs make quick work of the distance between you two.

“I heard that was the last Star V-Pet… I’m so very sorry. I was lost in excitment recieving mine I didn’t see you- but if you want I might be willing to make a trade…”You can feel your tail and ears perk up- are they serious? You give an eager nod for them to continue.

“I see you have the entire V-Pet collection. I’d take one of each for the Star V-Pet. Don’t worry, I’ll treat them well!” You try to school your expression as your face falls. Seriously? A full set of your V-Pets? Your friends? For the Cosmicon-exclusive, Limited-run Star V-Pet… guaranteed, with no need to fight to get one on the secondary market.

Draw or write about your Xero with a new trait and the fruit it comes from.

Details

Greenhouse gifts

Due to genetic engineering, Xeros can display a wide range of different mutations. They can even change these mutations at will: by eating tailor-made plants from the ARC Greenhouse, they are able to trigger their unique physiology to change in a controlled manner. This allows certain new traits to appear on any Xero. Does your Xero wish they could change any of their current mutations? Maybe they think they would look cooler with horns, or maybe they wish they had a prehensile tail to use like an extra hand! Any answer is valid, but what does your Xero think?

INFORMATION
Draw or write about your Xero with a new trait and the fruit it comes from. It can be anything from daydreaming about snacking on a juicy spice plum and having a big plume tail to enjoying a lantern fruit smoothie and starting to glow. The only restriction is no Glitch or Subspecies traits - you must draw or write about a Greenhouse fruit and the trait it gives. After all, ARC doesn't sanction any of that glitch-stuff anyway... who is doing all of that?

Seasonal and Special fruit traits are also fine to use even if they are not in the Greenhouse! Just no Glitch or Subspecies traits.

The purpose of this prompt is to give you a jump start on your Xero and possibly develop their lore!

Document your recycling vs. your garbage, and write about choices you’ve made in your life to reduce your single-use plastic waste or what steps you are taking in your community’s green initiative. Examples include choosing to fill a reusable bottle from the tap instead of bottled water, bringing a reusable produce bag to the store, and purchasing items packaged with less plastic. We know not all of these options are available to everyone, so you may also write about what you are trying to do for the future.

We require at least a standard grocery-sized bag worth of recycling, feel free to re-use any bags you get from shopping or invest in a reusable bag you can wash out after each use! Your recycling also does not NEED to be bagged; this is just an example to show how much is required at minimum.

2. Write your Project Xero account username on a piece of paper with the day's date. Take a picture of your recycling with this piece of paper, as proof.

3. Upload the picture somewhere (Sta.sh, Imgur, Dropbox, etc.) and copy the link to the picture.

4. Paste the URL of the image to the "Submission URL" box for this prompt.

5. In the 'Comments' section of the prompt submission, write about choices you’ve made in your life to reduce your single-use plastic waste or what steps you are taking in your community’s green initiative. Examples include choosing to fill a reusable bottle from the tap instead of bottled water, bringing a reusable produce bag to the store, and purchasing items packaged with less plastic. We know not all of these options are available to everyone, so you may also write about what you are trying to do for the future.

6. If you are submitting multiple bags at once, you may take a picture of all the bags together, and just submit the prompt multiple times to get your rewards for each bag collected. However, you will still need to write four different ways you are working on reducing the amount of waste you contribute to the environment!

7. Submit your prompt, and wait! A member of the team will review and accept it for you. Your account will receive a notification once the submission is approved!

THIS Prompt may be submitted up to four times per month. It resets on the 1st of each month!

INFORMATION
Go on a "real life" research expedition! Go to a local park, accredited zoo, or even just your backyard and look for interesting plants and animals.

STAY SAFE WHILE OUT AND ABOUT!
Wear a mask if you will be in proximity to other people, and please only go to a zoo or aquarium if you feel safe doing so in your area. Take photos of interesting things you see. Obviously this is easy to do at a zoo, but if you're at a park you might have to get a bit more adventurous! See a cool mushroom on a log? A squirrel or duck? Snap a picture! Identify each plant or animal you photograph, and write 1 fact about it! Must be at least 5 different specimens. Remember to wash your hands after your excursion!

BONUS: While you can do this prompt just with photos and writing, if you decide to also sketch the plants and animals, you will earn 200 bonus Prestige!

Why must the zoo or aquarium be "accredited"? Click here to learn more!

While I can't stop anyone from visiting a non-accredited establishment, I strongly urge you to research and understand why putting your money towards and supporting accredited zoos is important to animal welfare, public education, and conservation!

REQUIREMENTS

Animals and plants must be wild, you cannot use domestic animals such as dogs, cats, and livestock, or farm crops and other home-grown plants.

★ After your expedition, research the flora & fauna you photographed and do your best to correctly identify each one. Write its common name and scientific name, and one fact about it. INFORMATION
Participate in a "real life" research expedition! Write about a local invasive or endemic species (plants or animals, including insects!) and talk about their importance or danger to the biodiversity of the place you live. If writing about an invasive species, talk about what you can do to help. If writing about an endemic species, talk about what measures are being taken to protect them. You can add links to charities and accredited wildlife rehabilitation centers if you feel so inclined. The species you choose must be either invasive or endemic!

If you cannot take a photo of the species you’re writing about, use an image from a library book, or website. Make sure to source your work!

★ You may compile your photos & writing into a Google Document, or you can submit the writing directly into the prompt 'Comment' box and include links to the photos.

Draw your Xero in the provided V-Pet base!

Details

As you pass by the Jackpot Planet, lost in thought about what to buy with your next Orbit, you notice a small brown backpack tossed in front of it. In fact - this isn’t the first time you’ve noticed that backpack, it’s been there for weeks. Curious about it, you reach down to pick it up, maybe a peek inside will reveal who it belongs to - or maybe finder’s keepers?  As you pick it up you find a brand new V-Pet underneath, what awesome luck! I'd hate to be the fella who lost this...

Information

Draw your Xero on our V-Pet Template! You can do a full body, a bust, pixel art, a tiny scene... have fun with it and get creative! You may color the V-Pet Base "shell" any colors you wish!

Don't have your own Xero yet? You can draw Ziggy or Luca, our mascots! You can read all about them on their profiles. You may also ask permission to use another member's Xero in our Discord. However, if you do already own a Xero, you must use your own Xero and may not use mascots or another user's Xero.
